To approve the Weems Bid for the 1695 campus asphalt project based on the recommendation of the Facilities Manager which stated that the Weems proposal was the most comprehensive and offered the highest quality job. The Weens proposal included 3 estimates (“good,” better,” best”); was based upon physically walking the 1695 parking lot and noting areas of challenge; and using a 3” layer of asphalt.  Whereas the Bates bid was developed utilizing an a Google aerial view of the parking lot and a 2” layer of asphalt.  Additionally Weems is working with Play It Safe to complete the currently contracted ESSER III funded grading and draining project.

Moved by:   Terry Garza Seconded by:    Peggy Barnett  Outcome: Passed Unanimously

Discussion Items:

  • Due to the hectic December and January Presidio School academic calendar, Ms. Garza proposed that in lieu of a holiday party, the Board consider a Spring Staff Appreciation BBQ at the Tucson, Racquet Club in late spring or early summer.  In the past this, this type of event was scheduled for an afternoon/early evening and was accompanied with a half day for students and faculty.  It was determined to put an action item on the next Board Agenda to revise the 23/24 Academic Calendar to add the half day.  At the Board Meeting, a specific date will be determined in order to give students and their families sufficient time to make arrangements to accommodate the half day. Current suggestions are for either April 19, 2024 or May 3, 2024.

Principal’s Report:

  • “A” Rating
    • The Arizona Department of Education issued letter grades at the beginning of October and Presidio School was once again awarded an “A” letter grade for SY 22/23, due to the hard work and dedication of Presidio’s faculty and staff.
  • Employee Update
    • Employee DS transitioned out of her position as the Blue Caterpillar kindergarten teacher on Friday, November 3, 2023 and Presidio welcomed employee MC as the new Blue Caterpillar kindergarten teacher on Monday, November 6, 2023.
    • Presidio welcomed a new employee, OA, on Monday, October 23, 2023 as our new Math RtI teacher.  Since her arrival, she jumped right in and has been working hard to get students the Tier II and III math services they need.
  • History & Humanities Festival Update
    • This year’s History and Humanities Festival was a rousing success.  The H&H Committee brought representatives from the Postal History Museum, Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution, and various activities from around the world.  Students, volunteers, and staff alike praised the Festival activities.
  • 1695 Grading and Drainage Project
    • Presidio received the final estimate for the grading and drainage that included the asphalt.  The project is projected to start the week of January 2, 2024.
  • Assisteens Grant Supplies
    • Presidio submitted and received a grant from Assisteens totaling $2000.  The grant specifically supplies PE equipment, so Presidio purchased heavy duty ball crates, balls, nets, yard games, etc. for students on both 1615 and 1695 campuses to use during unstructured/ recess time. Monitors will be responsible for ensuring that all supplies are properly used and returned. An inventory sheet will be attached to each ball cart and back up supplies will be stored in the Book Room in Building 300.
