Discussion Items:

  • Ms. Montierth Puls discussed the results of the 20/21 Comprehensive Needs Assessment ratings and informed the Board that Fishbones had been developed for high need Principles 1,4, and 6.  These Principles will be addressed in the 20/22 School Year.
  • Ms. Montierth Puls provided an explanation of the Blended Learning methods being utilized by Presidio School.
  • Ms. Garza reminded the Board that Teacher Appreciation Week would be (5/3/21 – 5/7/21) and that Ms. Montierth Puls would be heading up the week’s activities in conjunction with the Leadership Team.  Funding for the efforts would be allocated as in previous years.
  • Ms. Montierth Puls provided information on needed Job position/description modifications including:
  • Student Support Coordinator
  • Character Counts
  • Student emotional health and other needed case management services
  • Discipline
  • Transition Services Coordinator/Teacher
  • Combining Reading/Writing Response to Intervention and EL Teacher/Coordinator positions
  • The need to move towards more Paraprofessional positions and possibly the deletion of Campus Monitor positions to better meet instructional and social development needs of students.

Principal’s Report

  • Review of and decision about school model for 21/22 school year
    • Single School
      • Hybrid model composed of remote and in person sections for designated courses.
    • Two Schools
      • OI school as described in OI Amendment
      • In person as described in current Charter
  • Discussion of Blended Learning
    • Presidio has about 1/2 of the student population returning for in person learning.
    • Teachers are utilizing technology to provide interactive lessons to both in person and remote learners simultaneously.
    • Initially faculty and staff were concerned about being on campus, but have since become accustomed to it.  
    • Increase of vaccines for younger individuals and modified CDC and PCHD guidelines has resulted in an increase of in person learners.
  • Review of 20/21 CNA ratings and fishbones
    • The 20/21 CNA and 21/22 CNA are similar in that Principles 2, 3, and 6 continue to be areas of growth for Presidio
      • Principle 1: Effective Leadership 
        • 1.9: Our leadership commits to drive continuous improvement
          • The teams feel that we are developing in this area, specifically in the use of a full range of implementation data and disaggregated outcome data to track progress toward school goals and monitor outcome.  
      • Principle 2: Effective Teachers and Instruction
        • 2.6: Our teachers and appropriate other staff participate in ongoing, applicable professional learning opportunities
          • The teams believe that professional learning opportunities for staff on these topics are limited or not based on need
      • Principle 3: Effective Organization of Time
        • 3.1: Our school year/calendar is organized to maximize instruction
          • The teams would like to see more opportunities for summer programs for intervention or enrichment.
      • Principle 5: Conditions, Climate, and Culture
        • 5.2: Our staff creates an environment which builds mutual respect among leadership, teachers, students, and families
          • The teams want to see the students take more active leadership roles and would like to review/revise discipline policies to better align with Social Emotional Learning (SEL).
        • 5.5: Our school offers services to fully support the academic and social emotional needs of students
          • The teams believe that Presidio would benefit from guidelines and procedures for providing students social emotional counseling services and in increase in professional development for school counselors.
      • Principle 6: Family and Community Engagement
        • 6.1: Our school creates and maintains collaborative partnerships among families, communities, and school to support student learning.
          • The teams feel that family involvement, specifically volunteering, was adversely impacted by COVID-19 and would like to see an increase in family engagement.
        • 6.3: Our school engages families in critical data-informed decisions that impact student learning.
          • The teams want to see an established school improvement team consisting of varied stakeholders which meets on a routine basis to review the Integrated Action Plan.
